Approach & Unique Features

We offer a two-module comprehensive certificate program in LASER Dentistry which is evidence-based and equips the candidates with the necessary theoretical and technical knowledge about LASER applications in dentistry along with valuable clinical experience of treating patients using LASERs. 

At the end of the course the students:

A. Will have sufficient knowledge of physics and technical aspects of working with LASERs.

B. Will be empowered to decide what LASERs to procure to fulfill their needs in clinical dental practice.

C. Will be able to start a successful LASER assisted dental clinic using a LASER of their choice

 

Contact session 1:

Comprises of intensive didactic lectures on high powered diode lasers and their use on soft tissues

• Introduction to LASER Physics

• Biophysical Interactions

• Modes of Operations of LASERs

• LASER safety and LASER dentistry practice management

• Clinical applications of diode LASERs

• Live demonstration of clinical procedures

• Hands-on training followed by patient treatment

 

Contact Session 2:

Comprises intensive didactic lectures on Erbium LASERs and their use on hard and soft tissues

• Erbium Lasers: Mechanism and clinical applications of erbium lasers

• Live demonstrations of clinical procedures

• Hands-on training and patient treatment

 

Assessment:

Students will be assessed based on the following components during the second contact session

• Seminar Presentation and journal article review

• Written Exam comprising of Multiple-Choice Questions & short answers

• Viva Voce

• Clinical Exam

Students must score 50% marks in all components to be eligible for the certificate.

Successful candidates will be awarded the certificate at the end of the second contact session.

 

Eligibility:

BDS from any recognized Institution/ Dental School

 

Course Duration: 6 months

Contact Sessions: 2 sessions of four days each spread 6 months apart

Mode of teaching: Hybrid mode

Venue: Department of Advanced Courses, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal
