On the occasion of World Oral Health Day, the Department of Public Health Dentistry in collaboration with the "Health and Family Welfare, National Oral Health Program, Dakshina Kannada District & Department of Periodontology organized special events at Besant Women’s college, Mangalore. A role play and oral health awareness programme was organized at Besant Women’s college by MCODS, Mangalore. The roleplay was done by final year BDS students of MCODS Mangalore and focused on the importance of oral health. A health talk was given by Dr. Deepa Kamath from Department of Periodontics to create awareness among the students about women’s oral health. A “picturequest” competition was held for the students of Besant college and the winners were awarded during the valedictory ceremony of the event. Oral screening camp was conducted for the students of Besant women’s college. The dignitaries present were Dr. Thimmaiah HR- District Health Officer, Dakshina Kannada, Prof. Rajshekhar Hebbar, Administrative Officer of Besant College, Dr. Laveena, District NOHP officer, Dean of MCODS Mangalore Dr. Ashita Uppoor, Associate Dean of MCODS Mangalore Dr. Junaid Ahmed and the Head of the Department of Public Health Dentistry Dr. Ramya Shenoy.
The programme concluded with refreshments being served for the audience. For the students of Besant women’s college, the take away message was to maintain oral health and live a healthy life.
