Overview

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, established in the year 1955, is now a state-of-the-art multi-specialty department. The department prides itself on the high-quality patient care in the areas of antenatal care, postnatal welfare, infertility, oncology and urogynaecology. It strives to incorporate excellent clinical services with a dedicated academic curriculum and advancing research activities. The department's vision is to establish a Center of Excellence catering to the reproductive health needs of women, train the next generation and to continuously expand research.

The department provides complete obstetrical care, comprehensive family welfare, infertility management, prenatal diagnosis, cancer treatment, endoscopic surgery, menopause management, pelvic-floor medicine and reconstructive surgery. Manipal Assisted Reproductive Center (MARC), well-equipped with the latest technologies and a dedicated team, provides excellent management of problems related to fertility. The department is also equipped to manage high-risk pregnancies and offer prenatal diagnosis with ultrasonography, amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling. Special clinics dedicated to oncology, urogynaecology and ultrasound have also been launched recently.

Community services are being provided for campaigns like Anaemia Prevention, Pulse Polio, Save the Girl Child, adolescent and school health, throughout the year. Five Rural Maternal and Child Welfare (RMCW) satellite centers have been annexed, where routine antenatal care and emergency obstetrics services are also provided.

The educational endeavours include teaching undergraduate medical students during their clinical rotation in MBBS and postgraduates (DGO and MS students).

The department also invites foreign students for electives as a part of its student-exchange program. Students from Netherlands, France, Germany and UK have come here and participated in patientcare and teaching.
