The Dean of Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, Manipal Academy of Higher Education;  Dr Dilip Naik recently gave us (a team of one faculty and six students) an opportunity to visit the Melaka Manipal Dental College which is based in Bukit Baru, Melaka Malaysia. We reached Melaka on 17th April, 2016. On 18th morning we were greeted by Dr Vijendra Pal Singh (Associate professor, Department of Periodontics) who showed us the various departments in the College. To begin with, we first met the Dean of the Dental college Prof Dr. Abdul Rashid who greeted us very warmly and enquired about the academic and research activities in MCODS, Mangalore. After taking leave from Dr. Rashid, we went around the College delving into the details and intricacies of every department. While the basic training for undergraduate teaching for the Dental undergraduates takes place in Manipal Campus for first two years, the remaining three years clinical training is completed at the Melaka campus. There were three separate floors having polyclinics for each batch year wise. Each floor had a color coded uniform for the dental undergraduate students. We also had the opportunity to interact with the students and visit the various labs which were fully equipped with latest technologies. Melaka Manipal dental college also boasts of a state of the art implant module programme (co-ordinated by Dr. Saptarishi) and CBCT machines which makes the college one of its kind. We also met Dr Sumanth (HOD Oral Medicine) who explained the various teaching strategies and methodologies used in teaching undergraduate students. Finally we concluded the college tour meeting the pro-vice chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Melaka campus Datuk Dr Abdul Razzak who gave us an insight about the infrastructure and vision of the Melaka College. All in all it was a very informative and fulfilling experience.
