Nutritional Programme Report

The students of 4th year B.Sc. Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, conducted a Nutrition Awareness program Thirlapalkke Moodubelle, Udupi district on 01st March 2019 from 11am to 1pm under the guidance of Mrs. Regeena Mathew, Dept. of Community Health Nursing, MCON

As per the menu, food was prepared by adopting the principles of cooking. The students have performed a role play on iron and calcium deficiencies followed by health education on how to prevent these problems. The modified menu was explained with the nutritive value of each item and recipe. A total of 22 people from different families participated for the programme. The prepared food was served to the participants. Family members were pleased and appreciated the effort of students and also expressed the programme was informative.

The objectives of the nutritional program were to find out the nutritional deficiency in Thirlapalkke area, create awareness on importance of nutrition among the people of the area, and to plan and teach appropriate menu that will meet the deficiencies identified. Nutritional assessment and physical examination were conducted for the family members of 34 houses. The report showed that there is low intake of calcium and iron in their diet. A menu was planned to meet the nutritional requirement of the people based on the RDA value. The menu consisted of spinach stuffed paratha, green tomato chutney and ragi juice.
