Report of Workshop on OSCE

Workshop on OSCE was organized by Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal on November 2nd, 2018.

The objectives of the workshop were to appreciate and familiarize the OSCE technique as a method of assessment as well as to develop skill in conducting OSCE. The workshop was attended by 23 participants from MAHE and from some other nursing institutions. The workshop was formally inducted by Dr. Christopher Sudhakar, Director Quality, Manipal Academy of Higher Education Manipal. In his key note address he emphasized the importance of conducting OSCE for educator and impact on student performance. He briefed about the workshop and the various other sessions involved.

The workshop was unwrapped by a thought provoking session on overview of OSCE and need for conducting OSCE by Dr Mamatha S Pai, Professor, MCON, Manipal. It was continued with a session on planning and implementation process and types of stations of OSCE by Dr Linu Sara George Professor, MCON, Manipal. Evaluation of OSCE was elaborated by Dr Sonia R B D’souza, Professor, MCON who emphasized on different methods used for evaluation process.

Orientation to online OSCE software was demonstrated by Mr Jomon CU, Lecturer, MCON. Dr. Santhosh Pai, Professor, MMMC shared the international perspectives of OSCE. He highlighted the usage of patient as simulators and technical advances such as CCTV camera for evaluation.

The program was concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants by Dr Mamatha S Pai, Professor, MCON. In their feedback, the participants said, the workshop was well organized, and it was helpful for them to understand the entire process of conducting OSCE. The program was coordinated by Dr Linu Sara George, Professor, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, MCON, Manipal.
