The MHA (Master of Hospital Administration) Programme (launched in the academic year 2010-11) currently offered under the Department of Health Innovation strives to prepare health professionals to transform into knowledgeable, ethical and innovative health administrators who can contribute positively to the betterment of the healthcare sector. The programme aims to create competent personnel in the field of hospital & healthcare in a professional manner to optimize care delivery and healthcare costs without compromise on quality. This is achieved through

The Department of Health Innovation seeks to evolve as a focal point for research and education leading to affordable and sustainable healthcare solutions to the diverse health challenges across the globe. Through excellence in teaching and research, the Department strives to infuse the necessary human capital to enhance the innovation capabilities and ensure that healthcare is “available” and “accessible” to every citizen of the country on a sustainable basis. Located at the serene knowledge hub of Manipal, the Department functions under the Prasanna School of Public Health.

The Master of Hospital Administration (MHA) is a full-time postgraduate Programme spread over 2 years (modular-based curriculum framework), with project/thesis work included. The MHA cadre of Manipal undergo extensive training in the state-of-the-art tertiary care hospital, (Kasturba hospital) which has nearly 9 accreditations to its credit covering laboratory and research facilities apart from NABH accreditation and ISO certification. The Kasturba Hospital is also AAHRPP accredited. Kasturba Hospital was established in 1953. Today the hospital has over 2000 beds. The hospital is fully equipped with diagnostic and therapeutic departments to facilitate the treatment of a wide range of medical and surgical diseases. It is well equipped for conducting advanced and sophisticated surgeries such as coronary bypass and open-heart surgery as well as kidney transplantation. The 280-bedded cancer research hospital is located adjacent to the main hospital. The hospital is attached to one of India's top medical colleges, the Kasturba Medical College. It is in this academically surcharged environment that our budding administrators are groomed. 

The aspiring administrators get unmatched exposure throughout the programme to the workings of a hospital through daily postings in more than 25 departments viz. 1. Registration and Enquiry 2. The students also work on a short-term research project on a topic/s of their interest. Alumni from Manipal MHA have been employed by prestigious hospitals like Apollo, Fortis, Narayana Health and HCG. Quite a number of students opt for further doctoral programs both within the country and abroad. The curriculum also includes open and closed electives which help students to gain credit points and keep in touch with the latest in the field.

Duration

Two-year full-time programme with modular-based curriculum framework.

Eligibility Criteria

Graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Medical Sciences / Health Sciences / Allied Health Sciences/any other stream* from a UGC recognized University with a minimum of 55% of marks (in aggregate) are eligible to apply for the course.

*Candidate from streams other than health science/ medical science / allied health will mandatorily attend two weeks' bridge programme offered by the Department before the commencement of the programme.

Selection Criteria

Based on the merit of rank obtained in the entrance examination and/or personal interview. In the absence of an interview/entrance the candidates CAT score will be considered.

Placement Assistance

Through collaborations with the industry as well as research institutes, the department provides placement assistance to successful students. The courses offered by the department prepares the students to have promising career opportunities as administrators and managers in reputed hospitals, healthcare services, medical research institutes and health insurance sector apart from teaching and research. The department provides placement and internship assistance to students who successfully complete the programme.
