While briefly outlining the functioning of IBS, Prof Mead from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, said that the major part of the activities of the executive committee of IBS has been on the review of governance structure. It is mulling a new governance structure, including an expanded executive board, a representative council and other changes to encourage a wider participation in governance. He said the aim was to have a new structure in place by 2011.

Prof Mead said that IBS had instituted wide-ranging changes to its membership structure. One of the changes he said was, to have free student membership across the whole world.  The current focus of the IBS was of course, on the upcoming December world meet in Brazil.
