Current Academic Role & Responsibilities

As a Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, I play a central role in academic leadership, curriculum implementation, and assessment in accordance with the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) framework of the National Medical Commission. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I deliver theory lectures, conduct small group discussions (SGDs), and oversee structured assessments for undergraduate (MBBS) students, ensuring a learner-centered approach focused on competency development and clinical application. In postgraduate (MS Ophthalmology) training, I provide comprehensive clinical and surgical teaching, including bedside training, supervision of patient care, and development of surgical skills.

I incorporate wet lab training and surgical simulators to facilitate safe and effective skill acquisition. My commitment to excellence in teaching has been recognized with multiple “Good Teacher Awards.” I am also actively involved in training senior residents and fellows in subspecialties such as uveitis and advanced cataract management. In addition, I contribute significantly to research and academic scholarship by guiding postgraduate dissertations and mentoring trainees in study design, data analysis, and scientific writing.

My research interests focus on uveitis and advanced cataract management, and I have contributed to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. I actively promote a culture of evidence-based practice, ethical research, and academic inquiry within the department.
