24*7 Diagnostic Lab

We have fully air-conditioned diagnostic lab with high end auto analyzers which generates 10,000 lab reports per day for all the out patients and in patients visiting our hospital. Total of 34 lab technicians are working in 3 shifts to provide these services.

A large number of inborn errors of metabolic (IEM) disorders in children remain undetected in India due to lack of investigative MSL.A large number of inborn errors of metabolic (IEM) disorders in children remain undetected in India due to lack of investigative facilities and economic restraints. Lack of awareness about these IEM disorders in the people of this region of south India has motivated us to take up the challenge of starting the IEM laboratory in the year 2012. This is the only IEM lab in this district, catering to a population of about 50,00,000. Patients from Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Since its inception it has generated more than 4000 reports.

Analytical Toxicology Lab

Kasturba Medical College hospital is a main tertiary care referral hospital catering to a population of 130,000,000 across states of Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. In order to support diagnosis, early intervention and comprehensive care, Analytical toxicology wing was started on 20 March 2015. This wing was established in collaboration with department of Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine and toxicology and Pharmacy Practice. This center offers different panel of tests including- drug abuse panel; pesticide panel; alcohol panel; narcotic panel and heavy metal panel. Since its inception it has generated more than 3000 reports.


Scope of the Biochemistry laboratory services are commensurate with the services provided to Kasturba Hospital. The Laboratory services are available 24x7. The department has facilities to do all tests required for emergency management and routine care of patients within its premises. None of the emergency tests are outsourced.

As biochemistry is a core basic science department offering diagnostic services and supporting postgraduate and Ph.D programs, it regularly conducts academic activities like CMEs and conferences and has good research output in the form of publications.
