Early predictors of Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) after Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL)
Name of the project: Early predictors of Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) after Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL)
Principal investigator: Dr. Mayank Kulshreshtha
Co-investigator: Dr. Arun Chawla
Funding agencies: Nil
Brief overview:
Although PCNL is regarded as a less morbid procedure than its open counterpart,it is not without risks for significant complication with Clavien > II complications occurring in ∼9% of cases. One of the more dreaded complications occurring after PCNL is postoperative infection, ranging from fever to severe sepsis carrying with it a significant risk of morbidity and in rare circumstances even mortality. Data on role of inflammatory markers in determining SIRS is limited. We hereby aim to evaluate the role of inflammatory markers for early prediction of SIRS after PCNL.
