Overview

Course overview: Oncopathology forms one of the core competencies of comprehensive cancer care, fellowship in oncopathology is a structured full-time post-doctoral training program of one year duration offered by the Department of Pathology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal & affiliated to the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE).

The course aims to impart advanced knowledge, skills and practices of oncopathology and to coach, mould & mentor a specialist in oncopathology capable of competent ethical practice individually or as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further patient care & medical research.

 

The department comprises of a team of 20 pathologists & more than 10 adjunct faculty of international repute, specialising & practising as a part of specific tumour cluster/disease management cluster with their clinical counterparts to form Multidisciplinary Tumour Board(MTB) teams, and the candidate will undergo rotation posting in the tumour clusters as part of training program.

The department handles over 18000 histopathology, 15000 cytopathology & 6000 immunohistochemistry requests with a formidable panel of over 80 immunohistochemistry markers.

The other state of art equipment & services include Deca head teaching microscope, slide scanner, immunofluorescence microscope, HLA cross typing, flow cytometry, dedicated PG teaching room with display, well stocked departmental library with over 120 books.

The laboratory services are NABL , ISO 9001 & ISO 14000 accredited and is an active participant in both internal & external quality assurance programs.
