Tobacco Cessation: Clinical insights

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, in association with Alumni Relations Manipal College of Dental Sciences (ARMCODS), Mangalore conducted a Continuing Dental Education Webinar on “Tobacco Cessation: Clinical insights” on 31st August, 2020.
The guest speaker for the webinar was Dr. Harsh Priya, who is an Alumna, MCODS, Mangalore, batch of 2006. She is currently employed as Assistant Professor, Division of Public Health Dentistry, Centre for Dental Education and Research, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Dr. Rajesh G, Professor & Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, welcomed all the participants. Dr. Ashwini Rao, Professor, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, introduced the speaker to the audience.
Dr. Harsh Priya sensitized the participants about the fundamental approaches to tobacco cessation. She presented excerpts from various cases she had encountered in tobacco cessation centre in her institution. An overview of various tobacco cessation initiatives being undertaken at AIIMS, New Delhi was also presented by the speaker. Dr. Ramya Shenoy, Associate Professor, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, moderated interactive session with the participants. Dr. Mithun Pai BH, Associate Professor, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Arathi Rao, Professor, Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, and Alumni coordinator, ARMCODS, Mangalore attended the program.
The webinar was held on online platform Microsoft Teams. A total of 104 participants took part in the webinar and included interns, post graduate students and faculty members from the host institution and faculty members from Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal. The program was well received by all the participants.
