College Day and Awards ceremony 2017

Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal held its annual College Day and Awards Ceremony on March10, 2017 at Chaitya Hall, Fortune Inn, Valley View, Manipal. Professor Wanninayake Mudiyanselage Tilakaratne, Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, was the Chief Guest and Dr. H Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education presided over the function.

After Dr Keerthilatha M Pai, Additional Dean welcomed the gathering, Dr. Nirmala N Rao, Dean of MCODS, Manipal presented the College Report highlighting the achievements of the dental college ranked at number one in the country by several ranking agencies. Professor Tilakaratne who is also the president of the International Association of Oral Pathology while congratulating the graduating students urged them to pursue honest ways in their profession. “You are, from today, turning into professionals and you are going to become pain relievers of suffering patients. Yes, you have paid money to get your degree, but you are not entering into a trade,” he said and added, “You are entering into a great social service of the mankind. As long as you remember that, you cannot go wrong”.

Impressed with the facilities in the University, he said that the University was second to none. On Friday, Manipal Academy of Higher Education and the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, earlier known as the University of Ceylon signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Dr TMA Pai Gold Medal for excellence in research went to Dr. Subhalakshmi Sen. Dr. Kanishk Gupta and Dr. Jaskirat Kaur received the ‘Innovation award’ for their project, “Brusrol – the Ultimate tooth cleaning system”.

Dr. Arron Lim was declared the ‘Best Outgoing student’ for the year 2016. The certificate of appreciation for PRAISE (Publication and Research Award Incentive for Students to Excel), was re Dr. Mathangi K, Dr. Aditi Chadha and Dr. Divyansh Bansal.

Manipal Academy of Higher Education awards merit-cum-means scholarship annually to deserving students. This year the students who received it were, Aakanksha Pandey, Kothni Sheetal, Akshitha Tandon and Thasmitha Diman. And, the best sportspersons of the year honours were presented to, Mohit Das and Neha Vinod were adjudged the Best Sportspersons of the year.

Dr. Rituparna Dubey presented the Student’s Council Report, which captured the essence of nostalgia and fond memories for the outgoing batch of students. Another highlight of the evening was the release of the latest edition of the institutional scientific publication, Manipal Odontoscope. Dr. Aparna I N, Associate Dean (Research and International Collaborations) gave the vote of thanks.
