NUTRITION PROJECT REPORT

The students of fourth year BSc Nursing Manipal College of Nursing and two students from the University of Stavanger, Norway conducted a Nutrition Project on 06 October, 2017 in Pareeka area under the guidance and supervision of Mrs. Celastin, Lecturer, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON.

The objective of the nutritional project was to identify the nutritional deficiencies, planning of an appropriate menu and to create an awareness on nutritional deficiency and its prevention. Initially, a nutritional survey was conducted among 26 houses in Pareeka area, Udupi Taluk. The survey report showed that there is an excess intake of carbohydrate and fat in their diet. A menu was planned to meet the nutritional requirements of people based on normal RDA value. The menu which was planned consists of diet rich in protein, iron and calcium. Vegetable clear soup, spinach chapathi and horsegram curry recipes were selected as appropriate menu and these were prepared at the community by utilizing the community resources.  

Family members were gathered and educated on effects of consuming diet rich in more of carbohydrate and fat. As part of awareness program, role play was performed by the students. The prepared foods were served to 15 members of various families of the village. Family members were pleased and appreciated the work of students and also expressed that the programme was informative.
