Report of Children’s Day Celebration and Health Awareness Programme - 2021

Children’s day in India is celebrated every year on the 14th of November to increase the awareness of people towards the rights, care and education of children.

Department of Child Health Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal along with the students of III Year BSc Nursing and II Year MSc Nursing organized children’s day celebration and health awareness programmes in various settings in the month of October and November 2021.  

1. ASHA Nilaya, Udupi

Children’s day programme was organized at School for Challenged Children, ASHA Nilaya, Udupi on October 30, 2021, from 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM. As part of the health awareness programme, the students of III BSc Nursing gave health teaching on prevention of Covid-19 infection through action song and demonstrated handwashing techniques. A total of 20 inmates, including 11 children and nine teachers and caretakers along with 32 III BSc and three II MSc Nursing students participated in the program.

2. Govt. Primary School, Hanumantha Nagar, Udupi

On November 2, 2021 children’s day and health awareness programme on prevention of Covid-19 infection was conducted at Govt. Primary School, Hanumantha Nagar, Udupi from 10.00 Am to 12.30 PM. The students of classes 3, 4 and 5 were actively involved in the action song. Forty-five children, four teachers and 32 III BSc Nursing students participated in the program.

3. Govt. Higher Primary School, Saralabettu, Manipal

Children’s day and health awareness program on environmental sanitation through a puppet show and action song was conducted at Govt. Higher Primary School, Saralabettu, Manipal on November 15, 2021, from 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM. The students of classes 1 to 7 were actively involved by performing action song, dance and singing patriotic song. A total of 95 children, six teachers, 32 III BSc and three MSc Nursing students participated in the program.

4.  CSI Boys Boarding School, Udupi

On November 22, 2021, from 2.00 PM to 4.30 PM, a children’s day and health awareness program on prevention of Covid – 19 infection was conducted by means of action song at CSI Boys Boarding School, Udupi. The techniques of handwashing were demonstrated to them and the students were told to perform and practice the same during their daily activities. A total of 11 children along with the incharge of the school, and 32 III BSc Nursing students participated in the program.

As part of the children’s day celebration, various games and cultural competitions were conducted for the students in all four settings. Prizes were given to the winners of various competitions followed by the distribution of sweets to all the children. All the children participated with great enthusiasm and joy. The Principals and all other teachers of various institutions extended their wholehearted support and cooperation and appreciated the good work done by the students of MCON, Manipal. The entire programme was coordinated by Dr Sangeetha Priyadarshini and Mrs Sheela Shetty, Assistant Professors, Child health nursing department, MCON, Manipal under the guidance of Dr Baby S Nayak, Professor and Head, Child health nursing department, MCON, Manipal.
