World Tuberculosis Day

On the occasion of world Tuberculosis day, the Medical Surgical Nursing department of Manipal College of Nursing Manipal, conducted a TB awareness program at pulmonary medicine ward of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal on 24th March 2015.

Dr Aswini Kumar Mahapatra, Professor and Head, Department of Pulmonary medicine, inaugurated the program. The program began with display of posters on various aspects of Tuberculosis. In view of creating awareness among people, 1st year MSc Nursing students performed a role play depicting the situation of a patient with tuberculosis, focusing mainly on early recognition, management, adherence to treatment and prevention of tuberculosis.

An interactive session with 40 participants was steered by Mr Prabath Kalkura, training coordinator, GFATM project. He addressed the challenges in maintaining health and preventing spread of TB infection. He reiterated on the importance of adherence to DOTS therapy and the patient’s responsibility towards self-health.

The event was highly appreciated by the patients and their relatives for its relevancy and importance. The event was attended by patients and their relatives, faculty and students of MCON and MSON Manipal and Nursing staff from Kasturba Hospital Manipal.
