Dr B H Venkataram Pai
BE, MTech, PhD
Dr. Pai completed his B.E in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Engineering, Mysore, Mysore University (1986); M.Tech. in Industrial Structures from the erstwhile Karnataka Regional Engineering College (now NITK), Surathkal, Mangalore University (1992); and PhD from Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal (2015). He joined MIT, Manipal, as Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering in the year 1987. Since then he has served the institute in various capacities. As a conscientious teacher, over the years, Dr. Pai has mentored scores of students to realize their potential and do well not only in academics but also in co-curricular activities. He is a recipient of the Best Teacher Award, MIT – 2012, and is also actively involved in research. His research interests include variants of special concrete like self-compacting concrete, self-curing concrete, fibre reinforced concrete, etc.
His PhD work is an offshoot of a research project funded by the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), of which he was the Principal Investigator. Working under the aegis of Manipal Advanced Research Group (MARG), Manipal, and Manipal Centre for Natural Sciences (MCNS), Manipal, the research project entailed the construction of a neutron source handling facility. He was also the Radiological Safety Officer: Level-1, on appointment from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Dept. of Atomic Energy, during Sept. 2009-2012.
As a member of the organising committee at the Department of Civil Engineering, MIT, Manipal, Dr. Pai has successfully organized a number of National and International Conferences, Seminars, Workshops and Symposiums. He has been a regular speaker on topics like Classroom Management/Etiquettes, Soft skills, etc. at the annual Faculty Induction Programme in MIT and neighbouring Institutes.
