ADD-on-GYAN wins honours at Dell and ET Functions - MIT Events

ADD-on-GYAN Educational Services, the 1st Student/Alumni Company at MUTBI, has won twin honours at major events in India and United States. While the team won the ‘Scale Phase Award’ at Dell Social Innovation Challenge at Austin (Texas, USA) in May 2012, they were declared winners of Economic Times Power of Ideas held at IIM Ahmedabad in September 2012.
Team ADD-on-GYAN, led by Sonali Gupta (Vice President – Operations) won the Scale Phase Award at Dell Social Innovation Challenge 2012 winning a total of $5000 (equivalent to Rs 2,75,000). Due to the team’s good performance, they have also been offered an introduction to the various Funds in United States including a possible introduction to Michael Dell Foundation. The team beat 1800 teams to win this award.
Later in the year, the team, lead by Priyadeep Sinha (CEO) was declared winners of Economic Times Power of Ideas Challenge (in association with Department of Science and Technology and IIM Ahmedabad). ADD-on-GYAN won a staggering Rs 2,500,000 at this event. Rs 500,000 of this came as cash prize and Rs 2,000,000 as an equity investment by Centre of Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) of IIM Ahmedabad. The team beat 14000+ applicants to receive this award in Delhi from Mr. Nandan Nilekani in the presence of Mr. Deep Kalra (CEO, MakeMyTrip.com), Mr. Raman Roy (CEO, Quattro BPO) and Dr. T Ramasami (Secretary, DST).
ADD-on-GYAN was started as a student start-up company in January, 2011 in Manipal Academy of Higher Education Technology Business Incubator to provide value-based practical learning to school kids of ages 7–14 to help kids bridge the gap between education and real life. It was the first student company started by Priyadeep who was then a final year student of Mechanical Engineering.
ADD-on-GYAN introduced Gyan LabTM as a means of practical constructive learning through an indigenous kinesthetic pedagogy at Madhava Kripa School in Manipal in June 2011. Currently, the lab facility is successfully running at 5 schools in Manipal, Udupi and Mangalore. The team is estimating setup in atleast another 25 schools across South India including places such as Coimbatore, Bangalore and Mysore for academic year 2013-14.
The team, apart from Priyadeep and Sonali, a 3rd year Computer Science Engineering student, comprises three full-time employees and 22 interns. The fulltime employees include Deenendra Shetty (MBA) and Sheron Barboza (MBA) as Business Development Managers and Asha Nayak (BE) as Academic Expert.
The team is advised by Industry and Academic stalwarts such as Mr. M Chandrasekaran (Corporate Advisor, Manipal Group), Mr. Luis Miranda (Former Chairman, IDFC Private Equity), Mr. Pulak Sinha (General Manager, State Bank), Dr. Kusum (Academic Head, Pearson Schools), Dr. Manohara Pai (CEO, MUTBI) and Mrs. Tanushree Sinha (Director, ADD-on-GYAN).
The company is located within the premises of Manipal Academy of Higher Education Technology Business Incubator, MIT, Innovation Centre on the 1st floor from where they are managing their day to day operations at present.
