This Women’s Day, MIT honoured the outstanding ladies who inspire and make the everyday possible. Ms. Nayanika Pawar, the entrepreneur who brought Dutch clothing brand Claesen’s to India, was the Chief Guest of the programme.

The function was inaugurated by Dr. GK Prabhu (Director MIT) and presided upon by Dr. Gicy Kovoor (Associate Director - Academics MIT). Dr. BHV Pai (Joint Director MIT) and Dr. Ramesha C (Chairman, Diamond Jubilee Committee) shared the dais on this occasion.

Dr. Prabhu, in his inaugural address, commended the achievements of Ms. Pawar - who also happens to be an alumnus of MIT’s Print and Media Department. He went on to recognise the important roles played by Smt. Vanaja, Ms. Laxmi Bai, and Ms. Kodavoor.

Three women achievers were felicitated in the programme for their accomplishments in various fields.

1. Srimathi Vanaja Poojarti (Caretaker, Beedana Gudde Cemetery)

2. Ms. Laxmi Bai (Entrepreneur, Bharatiya Vikas Trust)

3. Ms. Prajna Kodavoor (National Level Volleyball Player)

The Chief Guest was then invited on stage. In her address, Ms Pawar explained how determination and self-belief can make dreams come true. Her grit and vision of being an entrepreneur right from her college days, and her father’s constant support in pursuing higher education abroad made it possible for her to realise her aspirations.

What followed next was a session on Women’s Health, and how to safeguard it from everyday stress. It was conducted by Dr. Shamala G (Associate Professor and Head – Unit I, Gynaecology, KMC Manipal).

The event was concluded by a cultural and interactive programme that engaged the audience. Ms. Sumedha and team (Ms. Kavya Prabhu, Ms. Rakshitha Nayak, Ms. Mohini Rajamani) presented a splendid dance performance, followed by a short session of games organised by attending professors from the college.
