Dr Baliga completed her schooling in Madikeri and her medical studies from KMC, Mangalore. After her MD (Path), she joined as a lecturer in the Department of Pathology at KMC, Mangalore in 1988. She has Fellowships from University of Edinburgh, UK and University of Tel Aviv, Israel. She was Deputy Director - Alumni Affairs, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (Mangalore Campus) and Faculty Advisor for the student council at KMC, Mangalore.
As the Dean, KMC – IC from 2008 to 2014 and the Dean of Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, from 1 May, 2015, Dr. Baliga was responsible for overall administration and academics. She has taken a lead in introducing modern medical pedagogy with an emphasis on active learning as well as learning in context, using case studies with clinical relevance. This is best done using interactive e-learning platforms, flipped classrooms and a blended learning approach. Implementation of Impartus lecture capture solutions in the classrooms is a testimony to Technology Enhanced Learning, adopted by KMC.
Dr. Baliga has chaired the Task Force for Academic Reputation of the University with admirable qualities of team work, gravitas and commitment. As a Pro Vice Chancellor (Health Sciences) she will be responsible for the development and implementation of the University’s Strategic Plan among the Health Sciences Institutions of Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
