Overview

Introduction

KMC, Manipal has an excellent Health Sciences Library, perhaps the best among all Health Sciences Libraries in India. The state of the art library stretching over 1.5 lakh square feet, on five levels is a domain for information seekers; be it students, faculty or researchers. It has the capacity to accommodate 1300 students at a time.  Besides the comfortable seating and reading environment, the library is well equipped with modern facilities such as e-learning, access to internet and web resources including online journals and e-books. Library is providing a growing range of databases on the campus network. Access to e-resources subscribed by the library has also been provided for off-campus users. All the library services have been automated on modern line.  The library has fully computerized its collection, which could be accessible through OPAC. The library is enabled with Wi-Fi technology and security systems with Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV).  There is a separate audio-visual room, computer lab, group study area and private study area in the library.  The library has all the facilities for the students to learn. The Health Sciences Library is committed to provide a world-class information support to its users.

SEARCH - The KMC Health Sciences Library provides access to the following e-resources (online full text databases, online journals of various publishers, e-books, etc.).

 

  • AccessMedicine:
    AccessMedicine from McGraw-Hill Medical is a comprehensive online medical resource that provides a complete spectrum of knowledge from the best minds in medicine, with essential information. 
  • AdisInsight:
    AdisInsight is an integrated and easy-to-use database providing scientifically-based content compiled from multiple sources to provide access to relevant, unbiased records with clear referencing and links to original source across publishers.
  • BMJ Best Practice:
    BMJ Best Practice provide latest research evidence, guidelines and expert opinion – presented in a step-by-step approach, covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.
  • BMJ Case Reports:
    BMJ Case Reports delivers a focused, peer-reviewed, valuable collection of cases in all disciplines so that healthcare professionals, researchers and others can easily find clinically important information on common and rare conditions.
  • CINAHL Plus with Full Text:
    CINAHL Plus with Full Text is the world's most comprehensive nursing and allied health research database, providing full text for more than 729 journals indexed in CINAHL®. The database also provides full text for more than 275 books/monographs.
  • ClinicalKey:
    ClinicalKey is a clinical reference solution that supports clinical education and clinical decisions by making it easier to access and apply relevant knowledge. ClinicalKey provides unparalleled access to concise, trusted answers, as well as deep evidence-based content for more complex issues. Covering over 30 medical and surgical specialties, ClinicalKey is able to provide the answers students and faculty need with its quality, rich content.  It provides access to 674 journals and 1142 books.
  • Journal Citation Reports (JCR):
    Journal Citation Reports® is a comprehensive and unique resource that allows evaluating and comparing journals using citation data drawn from over 11,000 scholarly and technical journals from more than 3,300 publishers in over 80 countries. It is the only source of citation data on journals, and includes virtually all areas of science, technology, and social sciences. Journal Citation Reports can show the:

          *  Most frequently cited journals in a field
          *  Highest impact journals in a field
          *  Largest journals in a field
 

Citation and article counts are important indicators of how frequently current researchers are using individual journals. By tabulating and aggregating citation and article counts, JCR offers a unique perspective for journal evaluation and comparison.
 

  • ProQuest Health and Medical Complete:
    Users in academic libraries can find definitive research information in ProQuest Health and Medical Complete. The database has over 2842 journals titles. The database includes all charts, diagrams, graphs, tables, photos and other graphical elements essential to medical research. The journals cover all major clinical and healthcare disciplines including cardiovascular diseases, pediatrics, neurology, respiratory diseases, dentistry, anesthesiology and others.
  • SciFinder:
    SciFinder is a research discovery application that provides unlimited access to the world's most comprehensive and authoritative source of references, substances and reactions in chemistry and related sciences. SciFinder offers a one-stop shop experience with flexible search and discover options based on user input and workflow. You can search for substances, reactions, and patent and journal references anytime, anywhere.
  • SciVal:
    SciVal offers quick, easy access to the research performance of 6,000 research institutions and 220 nations worldwide. A ready-to-use solution with unparalleled power and flexibility, SciVal enables to visualize research performance, benchmark relative to peers, develop collaborative partnerships and analyze research trends.   • Scopus:
    Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed research literature with more than 20,500 titles from more than 5,000 international publishers. Scopus offers researchers a quick, easy and comprehensive resource to support their research needs in the scientific, technical, medical and social sciences fields and arts and humanities.
  • SpringerLink:
    SpringerLink providing access to millions of scientific documents from journals, books, series, protocols and reference works.  It is a comprehensive online collection of medical journals, books and reference works.  Health Sciences Library has access to 707 journals and 9645 books via SpringerLink.
  • UpToDate – Clinical Information Resource:
    UpToDate is an evidence-based, physician-authored clinical decision support resource which clinicians trust to make the right point-of-care decisions. It is one of the most widely used clinical information resources in the world. It provides continuously updated, evidence-based information, an intuitive user interface and powerful features that enable physicians to make diagnoses, create plans and share information quickly and efficiently. 
  • Web of Science:
    Web of Science™ provides researchers, administrators, faculty and students with quick, powerful access to the world's leading citation databases. Authoritative, multidisciplinary content covers over 12,000 of the highest impact journals worldwide, including Open Access journals and over 150,000 conference proceedings. Current and retrospective coverage in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities, with coverage to 1900 is available.
  • Online Journal of Various Publishers:
    Library is providing access to more than 500 online journals of various publishers, such as BMJ, AMA (JAMA), Karger, Lippincott (OvidSP), Medknow, Nature, Oxford, Sage, Springer, Taylor and Francis, Theime, Wiley, etc.
