Science Day Celebration

Madhava Kripa School, Manipal, cornered the glory at the National Science Day Celebration organised by the School of Life Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

Madhava Kripa School, Manipal cornered the glory at the National Science Day Celebration organised by School of Life Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. The month-long activity which began with science seminar contests ended with the science exhibition and prize distribution ceremony at Fortune Inn Valley View on 28 February, 2014.

Professor H P Khincha, former Vice-Chancellor of VTU, Belgaum was the chief guest.

Dr G K Prabhu, Registrar of MU, gave the welcome address and said that the University had been organising the Science Day for the last seven years.

“The objective of celebrating National Science Day in such a manner is to create interest among school children in basic science research. For that, several activities in the form of competitions are held”, Dr Prabhu added, “Children from the schools belonging to Academy of General Education and Dr TMA Pai Foundation take part in three competitions i.e. Science Seminar, Science models and drawing. 16 schools with 20 students each took part in the activities this year.”

Professor Khincha said, “Today is a day when we start thinking what science is all about. For me it is an opportunity to think what science is all about. We also think how science is done and what scientists do and what I should do.”

Every competition a High School and a Higher Primary category, with different rules for both the categories.

Madhava Kripa won four first prizes and two second prizes in both categories.

In the Science Seminar, Anitha R Bhat won in the Higher Primary, and Suraj Kumar in the High School categories – both Madhava Kripa students.

Who knows if a future Nobel Prize will find its beginnings in this Science Day celebration and Madhava Kripa.
