SLS scholars bag first prize in ‘Anveshan: student’s research convention 2017’

Mr. Vaibhav Shukla and Ms. Swathy PS, research scholars of School of Life Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education have won first prize in health science and agricultural sciences category respectively in the ‘Anveshan: student’s research convention 2017’ organized by Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi held at Tumkur university from February 14th &15th, 2017 for the south zone.
Mr. Vaibhav Shukla is currently a structured PhD program scholar under the supervision of Dr. K. Satyamoorthy, Professor, School of Life Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal. Mr. Shukla is presently working on the identification of differentially expressed microRNAs to delineate their role in cervical carcinogenesis. He is one among three participants selected for the final National level competition, going to be held in Annamalai University on 27th -29th March, 2017.
Anveshan: Student Research Convention’ launched by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) aimed at identifying and nurturing research talent of the young and budding researchers in the country. Anveshan has two principal objectives: (1) to identify young researchers with research aptitude and interest and motivate and support them for taking up research as a career. (2) to identify fresh talents with unconventional and innovative ideas and channelize them into research that would contribute to creating a solid core of knowledge workers and simultaneously solving the day to day problems by finding dynamic and plausible solutions. There are four project categories in the Anveshan-1) Agriculture, 2) Basic Sciences, 3) Engineering & Technology, 4) Health Sciences & 5) Social Sciences. The conventions are held in three phases; in the First Phase, all universities in the country are requested to organize an exhibition of research projects at University Level in which students are selected for the Zonal Level Student Research Convention preferably one each from each category. The zonal level winners will compete for National Level. The winners in the National Student Research Convention are awarded Cash Prizes along with Certificates and Mementos.
Ms. Swathy PS is currently a structured PhD program scholar under the supervision of Dr A Muthusamy, Associate Professor, School of Life Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal. Ms. Swathy is presently working on the project “Biochemical and molecular characterization of bioactive molecules in He-Ne laser irradiated brinjal (Solanum melongena)”. Her project has been selected for the final National level competition, going to be held in Annamalai University on 27th -29th march, 2017.
