Inauguration of “Centre for Advanced Research in Financial Inclusion”

Centre for advanced research in financial inclusion established at the School of Management, Manipal Academy of Higher Education was inaugurated on 25th of October, 2016 at School of Management. Ms. Kamakshi Pai, Joint Director, Bankers Institute for rural Development, National Bank for for agriculture and rural development was theh chief guest for the event. Speaking on “The business potential of financial inclusions”, she highlighted the need for financial inclusion in India and appraised the role of NABARD in creating affordable access to financial services to unbaked population. Mr. Francis Borgia, Chief Manager, Lead District Office, Udupi District was the Guest of Honour. He spoke on “the role of technology in financial inclusion” and explained various technological advances such as mobile banking and linking adhar to bank account to enhance access to financial services by rural population. Mr. Varadaraya Pai, Director- Finance, Manipal Academy of Higher Education was invited as Guest of Honour for the event. He gave an overview of inclusive finance in the olden days and narrated the efforts of Dr.T.M.A. Pai in bringing the masses under the banking system through “pigmy deposit” schemes. Dr. Raveendranath Nayak, Director of School of Management, in his presidential remarks shared his experience of financial exclusion of not being able to access credit to start his new venture. Dr. Savitha, Coordinator of Centre for advanced research in financial inclusion welcomed the gathering and gave an overview of the objectives of the Centre. Dr. Pallavi Upadhyaya proposed vote of thanks. Ms. Ankitha Shetty compered the programme.
