Manipal Academy of Higher Education has a separate hostel section under the management of the Hostel Management Committee. This committee is headed by its Chairperson. The Chief Warden, MU, Manipal Campus who is the secretary of the Committee looks after the daily aspects of the hostel management.
All the hostels of the University are divided into three campuses. The hostels of medical, dental and paramedical colleges at Manipal are grouped under Chief Warden, MU, Manipal campus; the hostels at Mangalore Campus are grouped under Chief Warden, Mangalore campus.
Each hostel has a Warden from the teaching faculty of the colleges who is responsible for the discipline, maintenance of building, allotment of rooms, etc.
The hostel staff consists of caretakers/ block supervisors, other attendants, and maintenance staff. The Manipal Servicecorp Facility Management Pvt. Ltd. (MSFM) looks after the maintenance of the buildings and other facilities in the hostels. There are separate messes for both boys and girls located at different areas of the Campus.
All students are preferred to stay in the University Hostels. All first-year students must reside in the hostels, as it is mandatory. However, first-year students desirous of staying outside under their arrangements must submit a consent letter from their Parents duly recommended by their HOI and forward it to Director, Student Affairs for necessary permission. These students must also give their local address, contact/mobile number, and subsequent changes if any to their College Office and Director, Student Affairs without fail.
Hostels Overview
Hostel rooms have a cot, a mattress, a study table, a chair and a cupboard for each student. Every hostel has continuous electricity and water supply, solar heated water facility, water cooler with Aqua guard filters, common telephone, common TV room, common reading room, etc.
Students can take an independent telephone connection on additional payment. Adequate dining facilities are available and membership of one of the campus messes is compulsory. However, all first-year students of health sciences campus are required to dine in one of the messes located on the campus, for health and security reasons.
Some hostels have gymnasium and indoor games facilities. Food court caters to a variety of food to suit all tastes.

Hot water facility: Solar heated water is available in the morning and evening.
Laundry Facilities: Outsourced washing machine facility with the operator is available in the Nehru Hostel for boys, S Chandrasekhar Hostel and Sonia Hostel for ladies. Clothes are washed on nominal payment and given within 24 hours.
Telephone and internet: Students have the following options for a telephone connection:
- Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) telephone connection
- Department of Telecommunications (DOT) for a direct line; this will be provided by DOT on a waiting basis
- MAHE telephone connection, an internal campus extension with long-distance connectivity with a refundable deposit of Rs 5000.
- Internet points in AC hostels on a monthly payment basis.
Commuting
- Frequent bus services from Manipal to Udupi and Mangalore.
Students have access to the TV room and other leisure/sports activities within the hostel premises.
