Programs
The department offers two programs at the masters’ level viz Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Analysis.
MPharm Pharmaceutical Chemistry
This program was introduced in 1970. The course content is methodically structured and designed to prepare the students for a career in academia as well as the pharmaceutical industry. In addition to this, the program empowers students to continue to pursue higher studies and research activities. The syllabus has been revised with the help of experts from academia and industry taking into consideration the current developments in the field of pharmacy profession and to meet the requirements of pharmaceutical industries, academia, and regulatory bodies.
The syllabus of the postgraduate program provides theoretical knowledge in a variety of topics related to drug design, advanced topics in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, process chemistry and analytical techniques in the first year of their academic career. The practical exercises that have been framed help the students to get practical skills in diverse areas like analytical techniques, drug synthesis, natural product isolation, physicochemical properties, separation techniques, etc. Seminars are part of the training program and it provides the opportunity to develop good communication and presentation skills. In the second year of their academic program, the students are allowed to carry out dissertations in the industry as well as reputed National laboratories.
The department supports the students in getting projects in the industry and employment in academia as well as industry. The department has been successful in achieving 100% placement all these years. We are proud of our alumni and many of them have excelled in their field. Our alumni are spread all over the world including the National Institute of Health, USA, University of Wyoming, USA, University of Waterloo, Canada, St. John’s University, New York.
