Overview
The Manipal Institute of Virology (MIV), Manipal is a centre for diagnostic virology and research activities. It is the regional reference laboratory for Influenza viruses and an Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Grade I Virus Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) supported by the Department of Health Research (DHR) and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of India (GOI).
The department also hosts the State Sentinel Surveillance laboratory for Arboviral Diseases in Karnataka. The MIV is an excellent example of Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) in public health virology.
The department also supports and conduct timely outbreak investigations along with the state Public-Health services and produces trained virologists through its MSc and PhD programs.
