The students are given time for self-directed learning as well.  Practical work involves identification and carving of permanent teeth, age estimation of the mixed dentition casts, and gaining an in-depth knowledge of oral histology through the histologic slides.

Collaborative research

Our Department works in partnership with other departments for studies on micro-leakage, research microscopy, image analysis, fluorescent and polarizing microscopy. Collaborations with Department of Microbiology and Department of General Pathology in various fields of research in oncology and infections is an ongoing process. Our well trained staff have provided adequate guidance to the students to undertake various short term research projects and have received several grants.

Service

Histopathologic diagnosis forms the crux of the Department. We not only provide tissue diagnostic services to patients visiting our hospital but also offer consultation to other private hospitals.  The reports are generally dispatched 3 -5 days after receipt of the specimen.  Thus we ensure accuracy and promptness in our diagnostic services.
