‘Namma Angadi’ – Shop Local; Shop for a Cause
Namma Angadi (Our Shop) is School of Communication’s (SOC) flagship event. Organized in association with The Concerned for Working Children, Bangalore (CWC), Namma Angadi is a three-day exhibition cum sale of handmade products and handicrafts produced by the skilled artisans of Namma Bhoomi, Hattiangadi.
Namma Angadi 2015 was organized by the final year students of MA Communication (Communication Management specialization) and Post Graduate Diploma in Corporate Communication as a practical project in Event Management and Planning subject.
Namma Angadi 2015 was inaugurated on 13 March, 2015 at School of Communication’s (SOC) lobby by the chief guest of the event, Dr. H.S. Ballal, the Pro Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Also present on the occasion were Prof. Varadesh Hiregange, Director, Gandhian and Peace Studies, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dr. Nandini Laxmikantha, Director, SOC, Ms. Sowparnika Pavan Kumar Attavar, Faculty Coordinator and other faculty, staff, and students of SOC.
Namma Angadi has always been a unique shopping experience for the people of Udupi, Manipal and nearby areas, giving them a chance to buy eco-friendly apparels, furniture, handicrafts, food products, and other things at very economical prices. This year, some of the most sought after products on sale were handwoven cotton and jute sarees; trendy, printed Pallazo pants; dress materials and Kurtis; earthen beer mugs; Kokum lip balm; vermicompost among others.
Shopoholics, handmade products lovers, and handicraft aficionados thronged SOC in large numbers on all three days and lived up to the event’s ‘shop local’ spirit. The event culminated with a musical performance by Dipam Bhachech (Ghazal) and Diptendu Lahiri (Sarod) accompanied by Mr. Vinayasa Hegde and Mr. Sunil Bhadri on the tabla.
