School of Communication celebrates Alumni Meet-2013
A large number of alumni from School of Communication, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, relived their memories of yester years and recalled their days in Manipal and the institute in the just-concluded Alumni Meet -2013 aty Manipal. They also expressed their intention to put in their effort to strengthen their mother institution.

A large number of alumni from School of Communication, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, relived their memories of yesteryears and recalled their days in Manipal and the institute in the just-concluded Alumni Meet -2013 aty Manipal. They also expressed their intention to put in their effort to strengthen their mother institution.
Ms Vanita Pai, CEO of Ekam Candles, who is also the alumnus of School of communication exhorted the alumnis and the current students saying that, “It is the desire you need to keep in you, to keep learning and to keep your ethics in mind. Talking about the media today all over the world, the student of SOC’s first batch in 1997 added by saying that, “The journalism and communication should not become superficial. Our job is to put the information in front but our job is also to make sure that the information is correct”.
She also talked about how the current scenario of journalism has changed in past years and how the news’s just focuses on reflecting the sensationalism rather true facts. She also mentioned specifically for the journalism students how important it is to have basic journalism ethics of validating the facts correctly and not focusing on superficial information. There should be a deep study of the subject and should be presented in the right way in front of public.
Prof. Varadesh Hiregange, the Director of School of Communication said, “ We stand for certain values, be it value of freedom of thought and expression with responsibility, be it social justice, be it gender sensitivity and be it our collective commitment to create sustainable or equitable society. Alumni Meet is a forum to recall the values we cherish”. He also urged the students to live these values wherever they are, in whichever field they are working.
The faculty coordinator of the alumni committee of School of communication Ms. Shruthi Shetty commenced the meet with an introductory speech. She said “ SOC has been organising alumni day for a long time now. This is because we want you to feel a part of the college and so that the bond remains even after you have graduated”
The mementos were handed over to the alumni. “This is where we unite again, we relive our old memories of Manipal, associate with our juniors and have a good time” said Kenneth D’souza, an alumnus of SOC. Students shared their experiences on the stage. Vivek Cornelio said, “ SOC has been a great place. It was fun being here and I learned a lot.”
The cultural committee organised the cultural event where the audiences were mesmerized by the music and dance performances. The event was closed with a vote of thanks by Sumit Mittal.
Alumni meet is a long going tradition of School of Communication, where all the alumni’s come together to relive the moments in their alma mater. Where the institute felicitates the alumni’s and the alumni’s share their experiences and memories of the college. The current alumni are distributed in different media industries and leaving a mark of their alma mater in various fields.
