One-Day Workshop on “Capacity Building of Field Supervisors of Microfinance Institutions”

The Centre for Advanced Research in Financial Inclusion, School of Management, Manipal Academy of Higher Education in association with Syndicate Bank, Udupi organized one-day workshop on “Capacity Building of Field Supervisors of Microfinance Institutions” on 25th September, 2017 at MPCD Hall, Manipal. The objectives of this workshop are to i) develop the skill of field supervisors in identifying project opportunities, assess risks of projects, managing individual risks and instilling credit discipline among clients, ii) acquire new knowledge of livelihood promotion measures implemented by the government, and iii) manage interpersonal relationships with clients that builds loyalty and group synergy.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Col. Badri Narayanan, Director-Purchase, Manipal Unviersity, and Guest of Honour, Dr. Krishna Kothai, Consultant, Azim Premji Unviersity, Bengaluru. The function was presided by Dr. Raveendranath Nayak, Director, School of Management, Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
The program included five sessions by a galaxy of leading experts from not only academic institutions but also experts from banks and financial institutions; policymakers and practitioners in the areas of project and loan assessment, rural livelihood programmes, financial literacy and inter-personal relationship effectiveness. The workshop was attended by 25 field supervisors from participants from SKDRDP, Asirvad Microfinance Pvt. Ltd., Grammena Koota Financial Services Pvt. Ltd., Muthoot Mahila Mitra, and BSS Microfinance Pvt. Ltd.
In the first session, Dr. Krishna Kothai, Consultant, Azim Premji University, Bengaluru spoke on “Project Identification and Risk Assessment.” The first session enhanced the skills in preparing business plans and loan documents. In the second session, Dr. Savitha Shelley, Associate Professor, School of Management, Manipal Academy of Higher Education spoke on “Micro financial Services for Risk Management.” The session provided information micro saving, micro insurance and and personal financial concepts. In the third session, Mr. Ramakrishna, Community Development Expert, District Urban Development Cell, DC Office, Udupi spoke on “Livelihood Promotion: NRLM and URLM” And informed about government schemes that promote and support livelihood opportunities for a large number of people. The fourth speaker was Mr. B.R. Hiremath, Deputy General Manager, Syndicate Bank delibertaed on “Creating and maintaining credit discipline.” The participants gained competence in calculating repayment capacity, creating a healthy portfolio, making customers comply with the credit policy and procedures. In the fifth session, Prof. Suraj Francis Noronha, Assistant Professor, School of Management, Manipal Academy of Higher Education conducted hands-on session on building effective interpersonal relationships. The session focused on being sensitive to others needs, the paradigms that we have and how it affects our interpersonal relationship, thinking of a win-win strategy to be successful and let others also grow and the effect of synergy.
