Overview

The department of Physiology, constitutes dedicated faculty members, who are actively involved in teaching and research. Many are also active in cultural and sports activities. More than 50% of the faculty are PhD holders and few are pursuing PhD. Faculty are active mentors and help the students in mentored student research projects. The department provides a good platform for MBBS, BDS and Allied Health Sciences students to understand the intricacies of normal body functions. The department conducts regular assessments both in theory as well as objective structured practical exams. To enhance the learning process and overall development including communication skills, UG medical and dental students are also exposed to PBL , SDL and Clinical Updates by clinicians as well as visits to the Blood Bank that are regularly conducted by the department. To improve performance, remedial programs are conducted and, weak students are identified based on block exam marks. The Students are provided with good lab facilities to learn lab based hematology and human clinical examination.

Academics

Department of Physiology caters to students of MBBS ,BDS and Allied health sciences courses using advanced techniques for teaching- learning including audiovisual aids, lecture capture by IMPARTUS-allowing students to access lecture videos and power point of classes  as well as reference material & handouts.

Students Learning activity

Department of Physiology facilitates students to become independet learners by conducting the following activities

  • SDL [ Sself -Ddirected Llearning]:

Where small group of students are asked to learn about the study objectives & present individually to the teacher evaluvator.

  • SDL activities also includes:

Students presentations by concept maps or posters or PPT presentations

  • PBL[ Problem Bbased Learning]:

IN Students will be given a case scenario and they are asked to brainstorm & comeout with learning objectives & later present the case.

  • Blood Bank Visits :

Students are also given chance to visit the blood Bank and learn the various procedures of blood storage and collecting blood from donors.

Community Service

Department of Physiology in association with Clinical skill Labs , organises Cardiopulomonary Resucitation [ CPR ] training camps for Auto rikshow drivers from various palces of Manipal and for Hostel Care Takers of MAHE , Manipal.

Faculty Research

Faculty of Department of Physiology are involved in various research activities such as Medical Education, Neuroscience, Meditation and brain structural /functional alterations using MRI & Research in gastroenterology, Metabolic disorders and Reproductive system and Animal experiments.
