Onam Celebrations

The Department of Commerce celebrated Kerala’s harvest festival, Onam, with great enthusiasm. In addition to honouring the traditional spirit Of Onam, the programmes promoted a sense of community and togetherness among the teachers and students.

1.     Athapookalam: The students welcomed the spirit of Onam with the creation of an intricate  Athapookalam, which set the tone for the festivities.

2.     Mahabali’s Arrival: The students recited the story of Onam, which was followed by the arrival of Mahabali, portrayed by the faculty, Dr Sai Praveen, who reflected joy and prosperity among all, embodying the true essence of Onam.

3.  Cultural Performances: Various cultural programmes were organised, which included ThiruvathiraKali, A traditional group dance and a musical feast of Onappattu by the students, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kerala.

4.  Games and Competitions:Engaging games like Sundarikkupottu and a saree draping contest added more excitement, and the day concluded with a fierce battle of Tug of War, a popular game played on the day of Onam, fostering a spirit of teamwork and fun among the participants.

5.  The celebration saw the participation of students and faculties enhancing the sense of oneness and prosperity.

The Onam Celebrations were a resounding success, reflecting the unity and diversity of our community. The event not only honoured the cultural significance of Onam but also strengthened bonds among the Department.
