In 2011, the idea of a “Manipal Centre for Natural Sciences” (MCNS) dedicated to fundamental research began to take root and the Centre became a reality on 1st January 2012 when she a took charge as its founding Director. While MCNS was conceived of and started under MARG, it was subsequently declared a Centre of Excellence and became the first Centre dedicated to pure research at Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

Dr. Gupta is a senior Professor of Physics and a career scientist with more than thirty five years of research experience. Over the decades, she has made significant contributions to the fields of cosmic ray and high energy astrophysics, nuclear astrophysics and nuclear spectroscopy. Her current interests lie in the synthesis of super heavy elements at the top end of the Chart of the Nuclides.

Dr Gupta serves the international scientific community as an evaluator/Advisor to the International Network of Nuclear Structure and Decay Data (NSDD) evaluators and a consultant to the Experimental Nuclear Reaction Data (EXFOR) database on the heaviest elements. Both networks operate under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna.
