The School of Information Sciences launched its first industry-oriented postgraduate program in the area of Health Care IT, in association with GE Medical Systems, Bangalore. Over a period of time, the institute has taken up more initiatives in the area VLSI CAD (of semiconductor chip design) and Embedded Systems. The institute has a very strong industry interface with leading companies like Philips, Synopsys, CENER Technology Solutions, Applied Cognition Systems, Manipal Dot Net, Axiom Design Automation, NXP Semiconductors, Mirafra Technologies, Karnataka Microelectronics (KarMic), etc. Most of the programs are industry-driven & students carry out projects defined by the industrial counterparts during their study. The projects are jointly monitored by faculty from MSIS and project managers from industries
Our students who have passed out from the institute act as a strong interface with industries to strengthen the existing system at Manipal. The scholarships to MSIS from the industries (GE & NXP Semiconductors) act as a testimony to the quality of the graduates from the institute. The postgraduate Corporate Program derived from the campus-run program proves their relevance to the industry.
The atmosphere at MSIS is free and flexible. It encourages group activity over individual excellence. It provides learning space for the candidates, who are not well-versed with programming when they join the institute. A week-long programming class in the beginning of the semester brings students, who come from a non-programming background to the level required.
On the whole, MSIS is an institution for innovative learners who can excel beyond the textbook and classroom form of teaching. On behalf of all the staff I welcome you all to experience learning mechanisms at MSIS.
