    Plagiarism detection tools: Role of librarians with special reference to Turnitin Software at Manipal Academy of Higher Education

    Plagiarism, the un-credited use (both intentional and unintentional) of somebody else's words or ideas is a universal problem. Plagiarism can be prevented if it can be detected by the instructors or authorities in an easy way. One such way is to purchase the anti-plagiarism software. Turnitin.com is commercial software available for this purpose. This paper discusses about the role of librarians in detecting plagiarism using Turnitin.com software at Manipal Academy of Higher Education. An attempt is made to describe the software.

    Institutional Repository: A path for scholarly articles with special reference to Manipal Academy of Higher Education Digital Repository

    The Information and Communication Technology has helped libraries to give modern library services to the user community. Libraries are finding ways by which they can collect, store and disseminate information among users. They are taking interest in building institutional repositories where they can store the research output of their faculty and students. In this paper the concept of institutional repository, various Open Source and Commercial Software available for creation of institutional repositories are discussed. Eprints, Manipal Academy of Higher Education’s digital repository is explained in detail. Some suggestions are also given for the improvement of institutional repository services with reference to the Manipal Academy of Higher Education Digital Repository.

    Digital libraries are the demand of the day. Libraries and information centres are facing challenges due to changes in form of resources and also due to ever increasing demand from the clientele for modern services. Open source software can be used to develop the digital libraries. This paper discusses the use of the software "Eprints" in developing the digital library repository at Manipal Academy of Higher Education. A digital repository is a digital archive of the intellectual product created by the faculty, research scholar and student of an institution. The publications of the faculty of Manipal Academy of Higher Education are stored in this digital repository. This paper explains In detail the development of MU digital repository.

This paper discusses the use of the software "E-prints" in developing the digital library at Manipal Academy of Higher Education. The research output of the faculty of Manipal Academy of Higher Education is stored in this digital repository. This paper explains the development of MU digital repository in detail.

    Security systems in libraries

Security systems in libraries are to be reconsidered in this age of Information technology. The new technologies should be employed to take proper care of the library resources. Manipal Academy of Higher Education has instituted several safeguards in this direction. CCTV is the main technology adopted. A detailed study about the same is presented in this paper. Cost benefit analysis is also made before the implementation.
