  • The Master of Library and Information Sciences is offered by the Department of Library & Information Science.

The Department of Library and Information Science was established on 1st August 2011. The department is situated at the Health Sciences Library of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal. Apart from the classroom learning, students are also given practical exposure. Manipal Academy of Higher Education libraries will be 'working laboratories' through which students are able to apply class room concepts through hands-on-training.

  • Program Description

The M.Lib.I.Sc. (Maser of Library and Information Science) is a two years Master programme comprising four semesters and is committed to develop an efficient and flexible system with emphasis on quality teaching-learning process.

  • Focus

Department has developed updated and employable curriculum. Emphasis has been given for practice-led teaching, practice-supported learning and hands-on-training through online and offline resources. Students will be given exposure to the advanced techniques in the field of librarianship including Computing, internet and library software training facilities.

  • Assessment and Examinations

Assessment Procedure: All subjects undertaken by the students evaluated using a system of continuous assessment. The students will be evaluated on class/seminar participation and assignment. Work, practical and class tests which together will constitute the internal assessment. In addition, the students will also have to appear in the end semester examination in all the theory and practical subjects as per the course of study. Each course will be evaluated for a total of 100 marks - 50 for internal assessment and the 50 for end-semester examination.

Internal Assessment: All the students are evaluated during the semester as a part of continuous assessments. This includes assignments and two in-semester tests in every subject. This is an internal assessment component and has a 50% of the maximum marks in subject.  The internal assessment is computed as a sum of the marks obtained in the assignments and average of the two in-semester tests.

  • University Examination: It is mandatory for the students to appear in the end semester examination to be eligible for evaluation of grades. The end semester examination will be conducted by Manipal University. In the university examination, every paper carries 50 marks. The answer scripts will be evaluated by internal examiners (preferably, the course teacher). Second evaluation by an external examiner will be done as per university rules.If a student does not appear for any end term examination for medical or other genuine reasons (as permitted by the HOI) or if he/she does not secure the requisite grade in his first attempt, subsequent opportunity will be given to appear for the subject along with students of the next batch. However, the last attempt has to be completed within 4 years of commencement of the M.Lib.I.Sc.
