Oration

Dr.S.Thanikachalam endowment oration by Dr. Anice George, Dean, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, held at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai on June 14, 2018. Addressing the gathering she said, ‘Today’s nursing practice and education should reflect the rapidly changing expectations of the patients and students’.

With modern technology easily accessible to patients and their family nursing care should be evidence based with all parameters and vital situations clearly and convincingly communicated to them she said. Today’s students are more technology savvy than the teachers and they prefer technology driven learning. More than class room teaching they respond well to bed side clinical nursing education. This is a major challenge as patients would like expert doctors and nurses to treat them while students would like to learn directly from patient based healthcare practices. Students also prefer a practicing nurse to a professor in the classroom for their learning experiences. Practicing nurses and students should also take up more and more patients based clinical research and provide convincing evidences that lead to improved nursing care practices Dr.Anice said.
