Dr Shilpa Kalyan
Associate Professor and Head
Dr Shilpa Kalyan heads the Department of Liberal Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at MAHE-Blru. As a Media & Mass Communication educator with over 19 years of academic experience, Shilpa is instrumental in establishing Media and Humanities Programmes at prestigious colleges and developing the same into reputable institutions. As the founding Head of DLHS, she has been pivotal in starting UG and PG programmes in seven Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines. She has worked as project lead for a UGC-sponsored project on Community Radio. She has presented research papers at several national and international conferences. She is the South India Lead for a Global Journalism Trauma Literacy Project - JETREG. She received the UNESCO Top Scholar Award for her Paper Presentation on Trauma Literacy at the International Conference in Oklahoma in 2024. She is a trainer with Google News Initiative India Training Network and DataLEADS (Batch of 2022) and a trainer with BBC Young Reporter India – delivering workshops created by BBC News, Internews and DataLEADS (Batch of 2021). As a Media Literacy Trainer, she has delivered guest lectures and conducted workshops for students in various Schools, Colleges and Universities. She has also conducted Visual Verification and Digital Verification workshops for journalists at various media organisations. As an external academic expert, she is a member of the Doctoral Advisory Panel, Board of Studies, Board of Examination and the Academic Council of several prestigious colleges and Universities. Dr Shilpa has published her research papers in several reputed journals. Her research work in Trauma Literacy, Artificial Intelligence and Communication technologies has been published in high-impact journals like Heliyon, International Journal of Child and Computer Interaction and Journalism and Mass Communication Educator.
