College Day and Award Ceremony held

The Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore celebrated its College Day and Awards Ceremony at the Dr TMA Pai Convention Centre on Friday, 7th March, 2014. Dr Kundabala M, Associate Dean welcomed the gathering that included the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim bin Abu Hassan, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Teknologi, MARA, Malaysia, dignitaries, invitees, faculty members, students and parents.
In his presentation of the annual report, Dr Dilip Nayak, Dean of MCODS Mangalore highlighted the achievements of the students and faculty through their efforts in publications, presentations and awards. Significant milestones and events were remembered and portrayed. The Pro-Vice Chancellor of Mangalore campus, Dr V Surendra Shetty spoke about the evolution of the college from its small beginnings to becoming one of the premier dental institutions in India. Dr K Ramnarayan, Vice Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education then addressed the students stressing the need for the students to develop integrity, attention to detail and professionalism.
The chief guest Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim bin Abu Hassan, in his address to the gathering reminded the outgoing students of their commitment to society and the need to practice dentistry with continual upgradation of knowledge and with a moral ethic. The Academic awards for the year 2013 and various endowment prizes were bestowed on the meritorious students by Dr K Ramnarayan.
Miss Khyati Narula, internee, was awarded the prestigious Dr TMA Pai Gold Medal for 2013. This achievement was significant as this coveted recognition was being awarded to a student of MCODS Mangalore for the third consecutive year. Dr Srikant N, Associate Professor, Dept of Oral Pathology and Microbiology was recognised and rewarded as the Good Teacher for the year 2013. Numerous other awards including those for authoring books/research, incentives/grants and cultural and sports activities were presented. Mementos and medals were presented to each of the interns to commemorate their years at MCODS and a Toast to the Institution was proposed by Mr Anand Shekhar and Miss Khyati Narula. A trip down memory lane in a presentation titled “Nostalgia” was made by the batch of interns.
Dr Mohan Baliga, Associate Dean extended gratitude by proposing the Vote of Thanks, following which the audience were entertained by a medley of songs, music and graceful dances by the staff and students.
