October 08, 2015
The department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, , organized a thought-provoking CDE and a hands on workshop on Forensic odontology on the 25th of July, 2015 at Lecture hall -1, ground floor, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Attavar, Mangalore. The CDE aimed at providing a forum for discussion on Forensic Medicine & Forensic Odontology as they both mainly deals with the identification of humans, both living & the dead. It is a science that utilizes the existing knowledge to serve the judicial system. Worldwide, medical practicioners & dentists qualified in forensic science are giving expert opinion in cases related to human identification, bite-mark analysis, craniofacial trauma and malpractice. Human Identification relies heavily on the quality of dental records.Although,in the absence of dental records, the Forensic Odontologists can still contribute to the identity investigation through profiling the deceased person by scouting for various clues related to the individual and using features related to teeth and techniques related to gender determination to identify an individual..
