Manipal Centre for Natural Sciences (MCNS) is the first dedicated “all-research” Centre to be established within the University. MCNS nurtures fundamental research in all branches of the Natural Sciences and it is a ‘Centre of Excellence’ under the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. The quality of the Academic Program is enhanced by integrating with active research. Efforts are made towards the production of quality scientific research in all branches of Natural Sciences. MCNS is striving to establish a technology-enabled learning environment. The Academic and Research Ecosystem in the centre is enhanced through the free flow of ideas and information as well as through the interaction with eminent scientists from other reputed national and international institutions. MCNS attempts to enhance the quality of Interdisciplinary Research through collaboration. MCNS promotes a culture of the workintegrated learning experience.

High Performance Computer Cluster

A dedicated high-performance computer cluster “Shakti” with fully parallel architecture is available for use by faculty and advanced level students at MCNS. Computing power and performance are kept upgraded as required.

Library

The Manipal Centre for Natural Sciences (MCNS) has a dedicated library to aid research in Natural Sciences, situated in the right wing of the Dr. T.M.A Pai Planetarium building at Manipal. The library was opened to researchers in 2013 and is growing at a fast pace.  Its motive is to create a conducive environment for both education and research. It currently offers a wide range of e-resources and services to assist fundamental research in physical and earth sciences. The MCNS library is fully computerized using the KOHA Library management software. Library has Turnitin, an internet based plagiarism-prevention service created by iParadigms, LLC, which checks documents for unoriginal content.

The Library has 4 sections: Periodical, Reference, Textbooks and Multimedia.  E-resources are maintained in a wide variety of topics of Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics and the Earth Sciences. The Library provides  digital access to over 400+ full text journals. It is a member of  and Developing Library Network (DELNET). Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) facility is available for the users on intranet and internet only.
