B. Geetha

Assistant Professor

B. Geetha is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Liberal Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (DLHS), Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Bengaluru. She has completed her B.A. (Hons.) in English from Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi University and master’s in English from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. She has recently submitted her doctoral dissertation as a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay. Geetha’s doctoral research focuses on the questions of stardom, film aesthetics, and film comedy with a regional focus on Tamil cinema. Her research employs a multimodal methodology that combines close textual analysis, archival research, and explorations of film as an embodied experience. Geetha is a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Fellowship (2022-2023) at Michigan State University where she gained access to South Asian libraries and engaged in productive conversations with a wider intellectual community in the field of Cinema Studies. Further, she also received a Travel Grant offered by the UCLA Centre for India and South Asia (2023) for her doctoral work on the hero-star Vijay Sethupathi in Tamil cinema. Her research articles have been published in peer-reviewed, UGC-recognised journals and academic forums like Lapis Lazuli: An International Literary Journal, Caesurae: The Poetics of Cultural Translation, and Critical Collective. Her recent book chapter on the anti-caste politics of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018) is a part of the anthology titled The Routledge Companion to Caste and Cinema in India (2023). Finally, as a performance poet, Geetha has performed her writing pieces at multiple creative platforms like Poems India, Toronto International Festival of Authors, and Airplane Poetry Movement. Her poems have been published in the feminist anthology entitled The Kali Project: Invoking the Goddess Within (2021), Pixie Dust and All Things Magical (2022), and The Window Journal (2023).
