Dr. Sunayan Bhattacharjee

Associate Professor

Dr. Sunayan Bhattacharjee is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Liberal Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (DLHS) under the Bengaluru Campus of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). Just prior to his assignment with MAHE, Sunayan worked with the School of Media and Communication (SOMC) under Adamas University (AU) in Kolkata. He was the Head of the Department (HoD) of the Department of Journalism and Communication (DoJC) there. Sunayan has a PhD in Film Studies from the School of Liberal Studies (SLS) under Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. A journalism postgraduate from the prestigious Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication (SIMC) in Pune, he previously served as an Assistant Professor and Course Leader (CL) with the School of Contemporary Media under Pearl Academy in Delhi. He has earlier been a journalist with renowned organizations such as The Times of India in Chennai and Reuters in Bengaluru. He has also been the Associate Editor of The Cinemaholic, a popular global cinema portal. He was the Assistant Editor of edInbox, a news portal covering educational news from Southeast Asia. He also boasts of a considerable teaching experience with prior stints at Tripura University in Agartala, PDEU, and Ramoji Krian Universe (RKU) in Hyderabad. He is a UGC-NET qualified scholar. For his PhD thesis, he studied the postmodern and surrealist works of renowned American filmmaker David Lynch, who was described by The Guardian as “the most important director of this era”. He wrote a book on the surrealist movies of David Lynch and jointly edited two books – one on the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic in India and the other on digital communication. With a cumulative experience of nearly 15 years, he has many research and other publications across multiple journals, periodicals, and books.
