Dr. Rashmi Kumari Ammembala

Dr. Rashmi Ammembala, an Assistant Professor and Coordinator at Radio Manipal, has a rich background in academia and media. She holds a Ph.D. for her pioneering research on “The Impact of Community Radio on Socio-Cultural Transition in Karnataka,” making her the first in India to earn a Ph.D. as a community radio practitioner. With over 23 years of experience, she has worked as a lecturer, a de-addiction counselor, as a sub-editor for Hosadigantha newspaper, and as a programmer for Namma TV and Udaya TV and as a Sociologist in Watershed Development team. Dr. Ammembala has authored more than 30 research articles, with over 20 focused on community radio, published in national and international journals. She holds multiple M.A. degrees in Journalism, Sociology, and Tulu language, along with an M.Phil ( Working Women in Media- South Canara District) and Ph.D. Currently, she is the founding President of the Community Radio Association, Karnataka chapter.
