DLHS' lecture series aims to bring inequality closer home than just being a phenomenon ‘out there’. Should we care about inequality if the existence of inequality favors us? If the ‘accident of birth’ bestowed on us privileges and social capital, should we be concerned about others who were dealt a ‘bad hand’? Did we all begin our journeys at different starting points or were we all born equal? Have each of us earned our place in the world through merit or sheer luck?  Even if inequality is ‘acceptable’, is it just? Are questions of justice individual or social?
