Overview
The Department of Community Health Nursing is involved training of under-graduate and post-graduate nursing students in the field of Community Health Nursing. Students are trained in the areas of family assessment and community assessment to identify health problems of people living in the community. Students are further trained to make referrals for people identified to have problems and to give health education with emphasis on primary prevention.
The department has been conducting morbidity clinics at Athradi, Marne and Patla since 1994 and observes all the National Health days by conducting Screening services, organising camps based on the needs of the Community and also performs various forms of health education programmes.
Core competencies:
- Providing need based care to the individual, family and community at adopted villages of Manipal College of Nursing
- Conducting morbidity clinic in adopted villages such as Patla & Athrady every month
- MCH services in Urban and Rural health centers
- Participates and observes in National Health Programme
- Organises School Health Programme and Nutrition Projects
- Organises various camps based on the need
- Nursing research in the field of Community Health Nursing
- Coordinating with other departments of Manipal Academy of Higher Education
- Providing community health experiences to International students.
