Dr. Jagdish Bhutany (KMC 1967 batch) consultant cardiovascular pathologist and director of Autopsy services at University of Toronto, Canada visited Manipal Academy of Higher Education and conducted a live demonstration and discussion on techniques of dissecting the heart for the benefits of forensic experts and pathologists.
The discussion between experts revolved around the best possible methods for dissecting the chambers of the heart and coronary arteries that could assist in understanding conditions and studying diseases that affect the heart. Dr. Bhutany, who is also the co-editor-in –chief of “Journals of Cardiovascular Pathology”, gave a talk on cardiomyopathies. He said nearly 10 percent of the sudden unexplained deaths, especially among youth were caused by dilated cardiomyopathies. Many doctors and postgraduates from the departments of Pathology, Forensic Medicine, Cardiology, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery and Anatomy of the Medical Colleges in and around Dakshina Kannada district participated as delegates in the CME program.
