The Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal was established in 1957 as one of the first self-financing engineering colleges in the country
MIT offers a Bachelor’s and Master’s program in engineering streams. It also gives students the option to carry out full-time or part-time research. The minimum duration for postgraduate qualified PhD students is three years for full-time, and four years for part-time. There is a one-year relaxation for applicants with an MPhil degree.
The institute undertakes sponsored research programs supported by funding agencies such as DST, CSIR, AICTE, and the Ministry of Environmental Sciences. It has collaborative research programs in association with premier research laboratories and institutes in India and abroad.

Department of Computer Science and Engineering, MIT, Manipal is organizing a five-day online Faculty Development Programme on "BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGIES AND ITS APPLICATIONS" sponsored by AICTE-ATAL from 6-Dec-2021 to 10-Dec-2021. This online program is open to faculty members & research scholars of AICTE approved institutions, faculty members from host institutions, and Industry professionals. Resource persons are from IIT, IISc, and Experts from the subject area. Blockchain is a publicly verifiable, distributed, immutable ledger for recording the history of transactions and is composed of blocks in a serialized manner. A block contains a set of transactions, a hash of the previous block, timestamp, block reward, block number, and blocks are secured and bound to each other using cryptographic principles. It can be used for a variety of applications like agricultural risk management, financial transactions, smart properties, credential management, internet-of-things, supply chain management, and even decentralized autonomous organizations (DAO). This FDP focuses on providing adequate knowledge in blockchain technology, its components, and working principle. The participants will also learn to build, operate, govern, and develop applications in leading blockchain platforms. The theme of this FDP is to upgrade the technical skills of recent trends in Blockchain and thereby disseminating the gained knowledge to the student community in the right way and serving society with many new inventions in this game-changing field of the era. This FDP offers hands-on training covering relevant topics in cryptocurrency and the wider Blockchain. From the technological standpoint, the participants will develop a strong grasp of core Blockchain platforms, understand what Bitcoin it is how works, learn key concepts commonly used in Blockchain and create an app with Ethereum. Hands-on experience will be given to the participants for real-world Blockchain development experience
